Leadership & Management Training

This leadership skills training course focuses on improving an individual’s skills as a leader and manager.

The right, consistent leadership can increase the productivity of your staff. Leadership training can assist in implementing the most appropriate leadership style for your organisation resulting in increased employee engagement and productivity, retention of staff and better decision making.

This course is delivered by John Sephton, an experienced generalist leader and manager with specialist skills in business coaching, behavioural change, achievement, and conflict resolution.

As a Business Coach John works with an eclectic mix of clients including academics at professorial level, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, accountants and board level executives, from SMEs to international organisations, assisting in a non-directive way to enable their leadership and management skills to be enhanced; and thus, achieve higher levels of professional performance and greater personal contentment.

John is a Client Adviser / Assessor on the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) flagship Chartered Manager programme delivering professional leadership and management qualifications at Level 5 and 7.

Leadership Workshop

This one-day course is aimed at newly appointed managers and individuals who have been in management for a while but have had no formal training.

The course is delivered through a mix of presentations, group work, discussion and reflection. It is highly interactive and delegates are expected to contribute. Delegates will receive a workbook containing briefing notes and papers on the topics covered in the course that will provide opportunity for ongoing development.

The leadership skills course will cover the following topics:

  • Leadership styles and what do leaders do?
  • What is a team?
  • Growing the team and how leaders can make things happen;
  • What can make a team dysfunctional?
  • What is going to be my style of leadership and management?

  • Leadership skills 3: How to have difficult conversations
  • Leadership skills 4: Listening
  • Leadership skills 5: Creating trust
  • What is going to be my style of leadership and management?

Leadership Qualifications

Effective leadership and management is broadly acknowledged to be essential to organisation effectiveness and success. Hence leadership and management development is a critical component of learning and development (L&D) practice. The purpose of this unit is therefore to enable learners to understand and analyse the role of L&D in leadership and management development. This will include examining differences between leadership and management. The key roles and tasks of corporate leaders and managers will be covered. The focus of the unit will then shift to the design of leadership and management development interventions. The role of the learning and development function will be explored. The unit will also include a discussion of the key principles for ensuring the success of leadership and management development programmes.

The focus of this module is on the development of leadership and management in facilitating organisational, team and individual change and growth. There is recognition of differing approaches and interpretations of the concepts of leadership and management within a range of organisational contexts including public, private, not-for-profit, large, small, national, international and multicultural organisations. This module encompasses the development of leadership and management at all levels ranging from first line to senior managers and draws on the established body of knowledge and theory in both leadership and management and learning and development, in addition to the growing body of specialist knowledge in leadership and management development. The module will enable learners to develop a critical understanding of the complexities and contested nature of leadership and management and the contextual opportunities for development. It will enable learners to develop a range of personal and professional skills associated with the development of leadership and management strategies to facilitate organisational development and change. The module requires learners to reflect critically on theory and practice from an ethical and professional standpoint and provides opportunities for applied learning and continuous professional development.
