CIPD Intermediate Workshops

We deliver our workshops at a variety of locations in London, Exeter, Swindon and Petersfield.  Many students find it helpful to meet and network with their peer learners and the trainers on these occasions, and all hospitality is provided free of charge on the day.

Introductory workshop

This one-day workshop provides an introduction to the course. You will gain the following

  • Overview of the qualification
  • Understanding of how you can meet the learning outcomes
  • Knowledge of the resources available to support you as a candidate
  • Knowledge of how to use Online Learning Centre
  • Understanding of the CIPD’s HR Profession Map
  • Evidence towards the learning outcomes in two of the core units

At the workshop we focus on two of the core units and you will make a start on gathering data for all of these, as well as making a flying start on your course by experiencing your first assessment activity. You will also have an opportunity to meet and network with other learners.

5DCM – Developing Coaching and Mentoring within Organisations

This is a combined workshop for students working on both Foundation and Intermediate qualifications.

The objectives of this half-day workshop are to gain an understanding of:

  • The differences between coaching and mentoring and other training interventions
  • The stages of the coaching process
  • Different coaching models and tools
  • The benefits of coaching for individuals and organisations

The workshop includes a practical session where you are encouraged to “have a go” at and/or observe a coaching session.

50% of the learning outcomes for this unit are covered by attendance at this workshop.

5RTP – Resourcing and Talent Planning

The objectives of this one-day workshop are to gain an understanding of:

  • How to attract talented individuals
  • The different recruitment and selection methods and channels available
  • How to identify when it is appropriate to use them

Practical activities include:

  • Developing a job description and person specification for an identified role
  • Using selection criteria to short-list candidate applications for interview
  • Participating in a selection interview
  • The consequent decision-making process

You will also gain an understanding of the relevant legislation.

Several of the learning outcomes for this unit are covered by attendance at this workshop.

5EEG – Employee Engagement

The objectives of this half-day workshop are to:

  • Gain an understanding of what employee engagement is
  • Identify the drivers, benefits and enablers of employee engagement
  • Learn how to prepare a business case for employee engagement

50% of the learning outcomes for this unit are covered by attendance at this workshop.

5CER – Contemporary Developments in Employee Engagement

The objectives of this half-day workshop are to:

  • Understand different perspectives and approaches to employment relations
  • Understand the role of trade unions and the state in supporting this, including the relevant underpinning legislation

A case study is used to identify the skills required for managing individual and collective conflict.
