What is something people in your industry/niche have to deal with that you want to fix?

People often find they can’t get the job that they really want because a job is benchmarked at a certain level. We can help them.

What are your credentials/past experience?

I began in HR as a graduate at Harrods in 1987 – it was a steep learning curve – I had a number of roles in HR and L&D but some of the things that have stuck in my memory are interviewing for Father Christmas and staying late to keep the toy department open for Diana and the two small Princes. I moved to work in L&D for First Choice Holidays as I wanted the opportunity to combine work with travel. After 5 years training staff and managers and travelling constantly I moved to work for Abbey National, later Santander. Here, I further developed my knowledge of HR and L&D working on a wide range of projects whilst gaining my qualifications which led to full membership of the CIPD. After both of my children were born, I began working part time at Guildford College, firstly managing their Level 3 qualification and then setting up Level 5. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the College but moved to Busec a couple of years ago when the opportunity came to develop my skills in managing their advanced programme.

What gives you the most satisfaction within your working life?

I really enjoy getting to know my students and seeing them succeed. I have worked with a couple of students from Level 3 right through to Level 7, that has been a great feeling.

What are the values that drive you?

I think I am fair, dependable and I’m keen to help where I can.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

My daughter is at university and my son is going next September so I guess my husband and I are classic empty nesters! I like visiting them and really look forward to them coming home and I love that they are having the time of their lives! There are loads of other things I enjoy doing, too numerous to mention ….
