What do you do for the business?

I am an Assessor/Coach/Mentor for students studying at Levels 3 and 5 for Busec and for all levels for two other HR and L&D Programme providers. In addition, I am about to take-over the role of Internal Quality Assurer (December 2018) for the Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced programmes as an integral part of another organisation’s Quality Assurance undertaking.

What is your favourite quote?

“Never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.” ― Roy Bennett

What is your favourite book or movie?

Book: The Boys: Triumph Over Adversity. The strapline of the book ‘Triumph over Adversity’ is so appropriate, since many of these survivors have gone on to have very successful careers and happy family lives.

What is something people in your industry/niche have to deal with that you want to fix?

To maintain a healthy work-life balance whilst achieving one’s personal development goals.

What are your credentials/past experience?

I spent 32 years in the British Army in various roles and operating in a multitude of theatres, towards the latter end of my career in strategic operational/HR roles. During my final 2-years of service I undertook a Masters Degree in International Human Resource Management, finally graduating in 2013. Since retiring from the Army in 2010 I have undertaken various roles within the Care Sector, operating as a Strategic Operations Manager with responsibility for various HR and L&D responsibilities. In 2016 I decided that I wanted to fulfil an ambition of mine which was to make better-use of my MSc and to fully immerse myself within a HR/L&D environment, it was at that point that I decided to become a Freelance HR Consultant. I have recently attained two qualifications linked to my role – Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement and a Level 4 Award in The Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices.

What gives you the most satisfaction within your working life?

The completion of the student’s learning journey, whether that is the successful passing of an assignment or the successful award of a qualification at the end of the learning programme.

If you were a cartoon character which would it be and why?

Bagpuss, because when he wakes up all his friends come to life.

What are the values that drive you?

Honesty, dependability, hard-work, responsibility for ones-choices in life and perseverance.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Weather permitting, I like to ride-out on my motorbike, it gives a sense of freedom and is a great way of enjoying the wonderful Wiltshire countryside where I live. We have 2 horses which keep me busy, early mornings mucking-out and some weekends at shows with my two girls. We have a Jack-Russell who enjoys his two-walks everyday which also gets me out of my conservatory (my office), so I am grateful for that. My wife and I like to make regular trips-out to the theatre, to watch a concert or even go to the pictures now and then, oh and of course the annual family trip to the Olympia London International Horse Show and the Xmas pantomime at the Salisbury Playhouse – oh no you don’t I hear you say!!
