Laura Duggal

What do you do for the business?

I’m a Coach Assessor for BUSEC, supporting students with their studies from foundation to level 7.

What is your favourite quote?

‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.’ Marianne Williamson

What is your favourite book or movie?

Book – there are too many to mention, Fiction, I love reading anything by Dawn O’Porter at the moment, Non Fiction, I’ve just finished ‘The Multi-Hyphen Factor by Emma Gannon, really interesting look into the world of work, how it’s changing and the effects of technology and social media. Film, I’m totally obsessed with A Star is Born right now, the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga version!

What is something people in your industry/niche have to deal with that you want to fix?

In my day job I’m a Career Coach for Mums returning to work after maternity leave so the problems that I help them deal with are things like a dip in their confidence, assessing their career goals and time management. Essentially, I support them and make sure they have a smooth return to the workplace.

What are your credentials/past experience?

My background is in HR and Recruitment. I’ve always loved working with people to find solutions, and found I was using coaching as a natural skill in both of these roles. When I returned to work myself after having my daughter, that’s when I realised there was a need for some extra support for Mums navigating this change.

In terms of qualifications I have a degree in Psychology, a Diploma and accreditation from the EMCC for professional coaches and I also have my Diploma in HR Management. I love learning and always like to have some sort of training or qualification on the go.

What gives you the most satisfaction within your working life?

I get so much satisfaction from what I do. The best moments for me are during coaching sessions when a client has a ‘lightbulb’ moment and see’s something in a completely new way for them. It’s an absolute privilege for me to share these moments with them.

If you were a cartoon character which would it be and why?

Moana’s grandma! I love that film and watch it regularly with my daughter… I think I must have watched it over 100 times now. When we sing along to the CD in the car I have to do ‘Grandma’s bit’ so what my daughter says goes!

What are the values that drive you?

Integrity, learning, generosity and fun!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

On the days that I’m not working I’m with my daughter, so at the moment it’s visiting parks and swimming with her! I’m also a member of a local choir and we do performances throughout the year, we meet on a Monday morning – nothing quite like starting the week with a sing song! Other things I don’t think I could live without are running –(purely for the headspace rather than the fitness factor!) and reading, I generally have 2 or more books that I’m reading at any one time.
