How We Work With You

1. Getting started
If you chose the Distance Learning Route you will begin your study with attendance at an introductory workshop or webinar. There are several of these throughout the year you can find the dates here. Attendance at this workshop or webinar gives you key information to structure and support your study. Once we have received payment of your invoice you will receive:
- An invitation with all relevant details for to the Introductory session you choose (Workshop or Webinar)
- Notification from the CIPD of how to enrol as a student member.
- Log in details for the PebblePad digital learning platform
- Access to an induction workbook in PebblePad
- Your Learning Agreement
- A core text book
- Contact from your assigned Adviser to organise your first face to face meeting following the Introductory session
If you chose the Workshop Programme you will have a fixed start date for your first workshop and set dates and subjects for all the workshops you will be attending. Once we have received your payment you will receive:
- An invitation to your first workshop and a list of dates for the other workshops on your programme
- Notification from the CIPD of how to enrol as a student member.
- Log in details for the PebblePad digital learning platform
- Access to an induction workbook in PebblePad
- Your Learning Agreement
- A core text book
2. Start-up meeting or Workshop
On the Distance Learning Route, after your attendance at the introductory session, you will have the first start-up meeting with your dedicated adviser, during the meeting you will:
- Talk through your current role and circumstances, to identify ways you can achieve your learning goals
- Agree a structure and timescale for your study programme
- Set deadlines for your first piece of course work
- Set a date for your next meeting
- Talk through which optional units you would like to study
On the Workshop Programme Route at your first workshop you will:
- Begin working on the core unit of your qualification
- Complete a percentage of work towards the unit directly in PebblePad
- Leave with a clear instruction about the work required to complete the unit
- Have a set deadline to complete the work
3. Introducing our digital learning platform - PebblePad
We understand how busy modern life can be, but with PebblePad you’re able to learn on the move. Accessible anywhere with an Internet connection, you don’t have to worry about halting your learning.
You can use PebblePad to:
- Access templates (workbooks) to guide you through the units or modules
- Access resources relevant to the subject
- Share your work with your adviser for guidance and feedback
- Submit your completed work for assessment
- Receive written feedback within ten working days
4. Meeting the learning outcomes
Using the Distance Learning approach, you’ll be able to meet the objectives for each unit or module in a number of different ways.
These include:
- Completing assignments that require independent study and research
- Validating recent work-based experience
- Attending workshops, where relevant i.e. Introductory Sessions and Support Exam Workshops (Advanced only)
- Undertaking professional discussions with your Busec adviser
Using the Workshop Programme approach, you’ll be able to meet your desired educational outcomes for each unit, in a number of different ways.
These include:
- Completing work within the workshop with the support of your facilitator
- Working collaboratively with the other students
- Completing assignments after the workshop with full resources within PebblePad and the support of the workshop facilitator via phone or email
